Will Goodridge, founder of I Spy Camping, explains ?I travel extensively each year visiting campsites across Europe, and there are some campsites I come across that are in a class of their own. And whilst there is no official 6-star rating, the 3 sites I have selected represent the best of the 5-star camp sites, and for me, would be the first on the list if the new higher rating was implemented by the ffcc.?

The first campsite selected is Domaine des Ormes in Brittany. The camping site that celebrated its 35th anniversary this year was created within the grounds of a Chateau that itself has survived since the middle ages. The site boasts, amongst other facilities, an 18-hole golf course, a horse riding school, a lake with boats and an amazing waterpark complex popular with all its guests. They have also extended their accommodation range to include a number of treehouses.

The second is the palm tree-adorned Camping Marjal, located between Alicante and Torrevieja on the Costa Blanca in Spain. It is a fairly new camping, created next to the sand dunes of Guadarmar and with easy access to the warm Mediterranean sea. The site offers great facilities, including a 5000m sq. tropical swimming pool with Jacuzzis and a waterfall, an open air cinema and a health and wellbeing centre.

The third campsite is Le Vieux Port, located in the middle of a pine forest and with on-site access to a glorious sandy beach; it offers real luxury in the south west of France. The site accommodates over 1500 pitches and is popular with families; the main attraction being the large water park featuring a large ship-shaped pool and its ?soirees and spectacles?.
